How Slam Poetry became a catalyst for empowerment and creative expression for young refugees. A retrospective on a five-month journey in Prague where young refugees turned personal stories into art.

Join our international training in Budapest as part of Empowered by ACTion – Civic Education Crossing Borders. Focusing on the Theatre of the Oppressed by Augusto Boal, the training explores how theatre methods can make social injustice visible and empower young refugees in non-formal education.

From October 22 to 25, young people and professionals from Germany, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic met in Budapest. Four days full of encounters, creative methods, and intensive discussions offered the opportunity to exchange experiences and bring new impulses for the work in the local groups.

The first meeting of our Polish local group took place in Makruty, where 11 young people from four countries lived together off-grid for six days. Simple daily life and creative workshops laid the foundation for a future artistic project.

From a participant’s point of view: our first international training brought together youth workers from four countries to discuss empowerment and refugee support. She shares her thoughts on power dynamics, discrimination, and practical tools for civic education.

In March, the first Transnational Meeting of Empowered by ACTion brought partner organizations together at the Jugendakademie Walberberg. The focus: reflecting on power dynamics in civic education – while building strong foundations for collaboration and trust.
